Historic City News local reporters have learned that St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Communications Sergeant Francesca Anderson has coordinated an effort to collect Christmas Stockings for soldiers in Iraq.
As of yesterday she had collected 287 stockings in various sizes and colors as well as over $200 in cash to help in the cost of postage.
14 boxes of stockings, magazines and other goodies were delivered to the U.S. Postal Service this afternoon for shipment to a military base in Ramadi.
Army Specialist Autumn Rowell will be on hand to collect and distribute the stockings to her company.
Sergeant Anderson came up with the idea when she heard that many of the soldiers do not get mail from home for a variety of reasons. Anderson said she wanted to bring a small amount of cheer to some of our soldiers abroad during the holidays.
