St Johns County Traffic Homicide Investigator, Deputy J.D. McGinnis, informed local Historic City News reporters that a Hastings man was killed at about 1:40 a.m. this morning in a single vehicle traffic crash on south CR-13.
The driver, identified as 33 year-old Ross William Ruff, lived at 1010 Yeager Avenue in Hastings. He was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown to his death from the vehicle.
A passing motorist spotted the pickup that Ruff was operating. It had rolled over and come to rest in a ditch beside the two-lane rural Hastings road that runs between several farms.
St Johns County Fire Rescue responded and pronounced Ruff dead at the scene.
The exact cause of the crash is under investigation, however, according to McGinnis, alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.
