Sergeant Charles E. Mulligan, spokesman for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, notified local news reporters with Historic City News that an 8 year-old boy was taken to Flagler Hospital with traumatic head injuries this afternoon after he was attacked, at home, by his family’s pit bull.
E-911 operators dispatched medical rescue personnel to the residence on Bradford Street; near St. Augustine High School.
According to reports, the family was having a get-together when the pit bull attacked the young boy who was outside in his yard. The dog let go of the child, only go to after him again; this time attacking his head.
Mulligan told Historic City News, “Family members and neighbors had to beat the animal with sticks to get it away from the boy.”
The victim suffered from puncture wounds to his head and neck.
The dog has been taken by Animal Control and will be quarantined until it can be tested for rabies.
