St. Johns County Commissioner Ray A. Quinn will be honored at the County Commission meeting tomorrow morning for his year of service to the citizens of St. Johns County.
Quinn was appointed by Governor Charlie Crist to serve while Commissioner Mark P. Miner was on active military duty. Quinn has represented District 3 since January 2, 2010.
Miner officially resumed his post as County Commissioner on January 13, 2011, although the ceremonial transition will take place at the beginning of the January 18th County Commission meeting.
Sergeant Major (Ret) Ray Quinn, whom Miner requested be appointed by the Governor, brought a legacy of public service and community involvement with him to the County Commission. Quinn retired from the Florida National Guard in 1995 with 30 years of service, of which 22 years were spent on active duty. From 1995 until 2008 he served as the Director of Executive Services and Chief of Protocol for the Florida Department of Military Affairs and the Florida National Guard.
Quinn diligently represented the citizens of St. Johns County during his time in office. He also served as the Commission’s liaison to the Industrial Development Authority, Recreation Advisory Board, School Board and Housing Finance Authority, among others.
Miner was elected in 2008 and took a leave of absence to deploy with the 124th Infantry of the Florida National Guard’s 53rd Infantry Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, his second tour of duty.
The Commission meeting begins at 9:00 am in the County Auditorium, located at 500 San Sebastian View in St. Augustine.
