May 16, 2008

Prosperity Bank Ponte Vedra Beach
In an announcement from Chris Kamienski, Executive Vice President and North Region Market President for Prosperity Bank, Historic City News and Media was advised that effective Friday, August 15th at 5:00 p.m., the Ponte Vedra Banking Center and the Jacksonville Beach Banking Center will close permanently.

Both locations are being consolidated into a new banking center on Hodges Boulevard in the Target Shopping Center.

Although customer accounts will be transferred automatically, Kamienski says that customers with safe deposit boxes in either of the closing locations need to come in by July 31, 2008 to remove the contents. Customers who continue their banking relationship with Prosperity Bank are being offered one year free rental on a safe deposit box at the new Beach and Hodges branch beginning Monday, May 19th according to Kamienski.

Additional information can be obtained by calling the bank’s Customer Care Center at 1-800-347-9680.

It would appear to me that rather than “closing two branches” they consolidated things into one. I’m not sure that is the same thing at all and I’m not sure it’s a negative situation. If all I look at is the headline, I might not have that impression. I don’t think/know if that is the intent, but either way it’s unfortunate.

Actually, Mac, they are opening a new Beach and Hodges branch beginning Monday, May 19th. The “permanent closing” of the Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville Beach branches is not until August 15th.

I read the announcement. Auggie used the bank’s words. I don’t rate it positive or negative unless you live or work closer to the Ponte Vedra or Jacksonville Beach branches that are closing.

A lot of “Islanders” won’t “cross the ditch” …. meaning they won’t cross the Intracoastal and fight that Beach Boulevard traffic to get to Hodges Boulevard. It is unfortunate for them and inconveinient if they have to get a new bank account and safe deposit box, change all their “bill pay” and automatic draft payments, etc., etc.

Prosperity Bank is hoping they won’t.

Wow. Well, hopefully they did alot of marketing research before making this decision.. I know full well how true it is that so many of the Beaches residents won’t ‘cross the ditch’ as it’s said. I tend to think they may have it gotten it wrong, but hmmm, maybe they had alot of positive feedback from any research they did prior to making this decision. We’ll probably hear about it’s success or failure in less than a year.

Got something to say?
