Artworthy: Tara Ferreira

Occupation? “Costume Designer, Photography Stylist, Painter, Jeweler, Mom, Wife, and so much more.”

Artist or advocate? “Artist.”

Artistic Tool of Choice? “Needle and thread – currently I am making costumes for the Winter Wonderland play, “The Quilt Maker’s Gift.”

First artistic memory? “Helping my mother to make the costume for my role as ‘Dorothy’ in the ‘Wizard of Oz’ play in fifth grade.”

Defining moment as an Artist? “Working full time for a photographer as a producer/stylist and providing wardrobe, props, hair/makeup, location scouting, model scouting etc.”

Favorite art related object at the moment? “My best work of art thus far has been my 11 month old daughter, Olive Dot Ferreira. She inspires me and keeps me on my toes.”

Inspiration or perspiration? “Good inspiration gives me good perspiration!”

Why St. Johns County? “After graduating from Flagler College’s Fine Art program, I was an apprentice at Neff Jewelers. I loved the flourishing community of up and coming young artists. I decided to start my family here and begin my own business, Tara Ferreira Designs.”

The Cultural Council interviewed Tara’s husband, Seth, a few weeks back. This is one talented family. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the young and beautiful Olive and we’re waiting for her to learn how to talk so we can interview her as well. You can see Tara’s original clothes in the upcoming “Big Trunk Show” at Cafe Eleven on November 20th.
