Holy Cross offers Halloween prayer service

Posted on 10/29/200810/29/2008 By Historic City News

One church in St. Augustine is offering a new event to participate in this Halloween according to an announcement received by Historic City News from Communications Director Barb Hanrahan.

The Holy Cross Charismatic Orthodox Church, located at 110 Masters Drive, is offering a prayer service called Spiritual Warfare on the evening of October 31st.

The church and it’s leaders have taken a strong stand against the Halloween of today and believe that the present day Halloween is a pagan holiday focused on the occult, evil principalities and powers, spiritual wickedness in high places and the rulers of darkness in this world.

“The October 31st holiday that we today know as Halloween has strong roots in paganism and is closely connected with the worship of the Enemy of this world, Satan,” stated Holy Cross Bishop Mark Kersey. “It is a holiday that generally glorifies the dark things of this world, rather than the light of Jesus Christ, The Truth.”

“Years ago, on October 31st, what we now know as Halloween, people believed the boundary between the living and the dead dissolved and the dead became dangerous to the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops,” explained Holy Cross Priest Father Gregory Fancois. “Halloween has been known to be the day of pagan’s celebrations of evil worshiping. We believe that as Christians we are called to be fighters and warriors of evil.”

Holy Cross would like to see their Spiritual Warfare night to replace the current traditions celebrated on Halloween.
