Children’s Museum of St. Johns is excited to be getting back in the “swing of things” after a brief summer break, according to an announcement received by Historic City News from Kathy C. Weed, Founding Board Member and Volunteer Coordinator.
The museum project has a new set of officers and promises a great year of fun and educational events.
Weed said, “As the past President, I am looking forward to my new role as the Volunteer Coordinator. This role will allow me to keep in contact with our wonderful, incredible volunteers! It is always encouraging to meet people who are passionate about Children’s Museum of St. Johns and who want to help make it a reality!”
The Children’s Museum is a new organization that is run solely by unpaid volunteers which presents challenges to Weed since it is not always easy to keep in contact with everyone that wants to help. Weed says that it is her goal to get a newsletter out to the volunteers at least once a month. The newsletter will keep everyone informed on updates about what CMSJ is doing, where volunteers are needed, committee notes and meeting times.
If you are interested in being on a committee, Weed says that the newsletter will have the date, time, place and contact information for each Children’s Museum of St. Johns committee. She says that you can show up for the meeting or contact the Committee Chairperson in advance.
Weed said, “We are currently in need of Volunteers on October 25, 2008 for Ancient City Kids Day. We will be working in two hour shifts from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM at our newest exhibit, The Big Bubble Blowout!”
If you are interested in helping out at this event, please contact CMSJ by e-mail at info@explorecmsj.org or leave a message at (904) 797-7243. A volunteer meeting to briefly review what the volunteer’s role will be at this event is planned no later than the 2nd week in October.
