Two Duval County men were arrested Thursday morning on charges of trespassing on a construction site and petit theft according to SJSO Media Relations Officer Kevin Kelshaw in a report provided to Historic City News.
Deputies responded to a call in the area of S.R. 13 North and Joe Ashton Rd., at 9:15 a.m., regarding a theft in progress.
The investigation began when the property owner arrived and observed the two suspects allegedly removing building materials from a home under construction in the 100 block of Honey Branch La., Fruit Cove. The two had 33 pieces of hardy board loaded on a pick-up truck when the victim confronted the two.
The two suspects got into their vehicle and fled at a high rate of speed causing all of the alleged stolen items to fly out of the pickup truck. The victim called the Sheriff’s Office and followed the pair northbound on C.R. 13 until deputies arrived and conducted a traffic stop in the 8000 block.
The two suspects were identified as William Edward Brown, 23, 7772 Durrance Rd., and Joshua Michael French, 22, 7710 Durrance Rd. They were each booked into the County Jail where they remain in lieu of $2700 bond.
The property was returned to the victim and deputies impounded French’s 2002 Chevrolet Silverado.
