Historic City news was informed of two bodies that appear to have washed ashore yesterday — one victim discovered face down on the beach by a passerby around 6:15 p.m. and the other reported shortly after 9:00 p.m.
The first body was found on the beach by a passerby in the 3800 block of Coastal Highway, north of Vilano Beach around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. That victim was a middle age white male.
Homicide detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to the second scene on the beach in the 1300 block of Ponte Vedra Blvd. where they found the body of an older white male.
A beach employee spotted the second body and called the Sheriff’s Office. This was the second male subject to be found washed ashore within three hours and 14 miles of each other Wednesday evening.
District Medical Examiner, Dr. Terrence Steiner, will determine the identity of the individuals, the cause of death or if foul play is suspected during his autopsy.
The Sheriff’s investigation is continuing to determine if the two incidents are related.
