Deputy Sheriff Ryan Smith was called to Whispering Woods Apartments yesterday morning to take a report of a stolen motorcycle; the second motorcycle reported stolen in the area over night.
According to the victim, sometime between 9:00 p.m. Sunday night and 9:00 a.m. Monday morning, the motorcycle, which was described as chrome and silver color, disappeared from the parking lot near the victim’s apartment.
The victim stated that the engine size is 1000cc and that the bike has dual chrome exhaust. The victim’s last name is written in Old English on the windshield.
A search of the area and review of the apartment security video at the front gate revealed no motorcycle matching the description given by the victim, leading Deputy Smith to suspect that the thief may be using a truck and loading the motorcycles into the bed.
Overnight, another motorcycle theft was reported from Whispering Pines Apartments, which is located next to Whispering Woods Apartments. That motor cycle was also a sport version motor cycle. It appears this could be an organized group committing these thefts, according to Deputy Smith.
Identifying information on each of the stolen motorcycles was entered into state and national crime information databases in the even they may be spotted in the future. In the meantime, if you have any information concerning either of these crimes, please contact the Property Crimes Unit of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
