Water Street Collection at the Art Advocate

Posted on 06/24/2008 By Historic City News

St. Johns Cultural Council
The Water Street Collection will be presented at the Art Advocate Gallery at 76B San Marco Avenue in St. Augustine, according to an announcement received by Historic City News this morning from the St. Johns Cultural Council.

An opening reception will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2008. The public is invited and encouraged to view the artwork and meet the Water Street artists during the reception.

The Water Street Collection will run from June 28 through July 18.

In the early 1990’s, a quintet of artists living on Water Street in St. Augustine thought that they would put their collective creative and artistic energies together, open up their studios, and display their works. They were dubbed “The Water Street Five” and included Clarinda Jennison, Ted Karam, Renee Drysdale, Deborah Thompson and David Ouellette.

Now, with the passage and changes of time, and the loss of Ted and Clarinda, another force from the same geographical area is about to exhibit their artistic skills and expressions. The Water Street Collection includes Deborah Thompson and David Ouellette from the earlier group with tribute pieces from both Ted and Clarinda along with the works of Wendy Mandel McDaniel and Jason Fort.
