St. Augustine was home to the first railroad depot outside Jacksonville more than a century ago.
Now, we could have a new depot under a “resolution of support” urging Governor Charlie Crist and the Florida Department of Transportation to prioritize a Jacksonville to Miami rail corridor as part of the federal stimulus package for Florida.
The resolution was initiated by the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council to create AMTRAK intercity rail stations along the east coast, including St. Augustine, Daytona Beach, Titusville, Melbourne, Cocoa Beach, Vero Beach, Fort Pierce, Stuart, and Palm Beach Gardens. Stations already exist at Jacksonville, West Palm Beach, Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Miami.
