Another prototype Food Lion opened

Posted on 12/12/200912/12/2009 By Historic City News

Historic City News has learned that a new $10.7 million Food Lion shopping center opened Wednesday, December 9th at St. Augustine Shores.

The 36,000-square-foot Food Lion anchor is another prototype store like the one built off U.S. 1 at Palencia in northern St. Johns County.

The prototype stores are designed to create the atmosphere of a neighborhood marketplace, according to a company representative. Beyond typical features, the prototypes include an expanded natural and organic foods section, as well as an expanded ethnic section and a greater variety of wines.

Food Lion has three stores in St. Johns County.

The 56,128-square-foot shopping center at 181 Blackford Way, off U.S. 1 at the entrance to St. Augustine Shores, is owned by Food Lion LLC.
