Auglink customers now serviced by Old City

Maurice Morissette, President of Auglink Communications, Inc., notified the business’s Internet subscribers that this was the final week of the company’s 15 year history in St. Augustine.

Auglink was the city’s first privately owned dialup Internet service provider back in the days when America Online did not offer a local, toll-free number for the St. Augustine calling area. Auglink also offered its customers “aug.com” email services; including email forwarding.

The company, that originally operated out of the kitchen of a local attorney’s office in 1994, was started by David Elkus and Eric Hinson. They were incorporated on January 18, 1995.

Chuck Nusbaum, President of Old City Web Services, Inc., reported to Historic City News that they will begin offering Internet services to former Auglink customers immediately.

In an email welcoming Auglink customers to the Old City family, Nusbaum said, “For a while you won’t notice any difference, except possibly a little better service.”

Nusbaum told Historic City News, “We do have some short and long term plans in place to improve the quality of the service experience and possibly lower some prices.”

One of the biggest fears to Auglink’s subscribers was what would become of their email! After the suddenness of receiving Morissette’s original notice, and after many years of distributing personal and business e-mail addresses, some subscribers were in a panic.

Nusbaum says his company is still sorting things out, but he told Historic City News “For now, I just want to assure everyone that their aug.com email address and account is still there.”
