Betty Griffin House seeks donations

With more than 30 woman and children in their shelter each day, St. Augustine’s Betty Griffin House has asked Historic City News to announce that large quantities of food, cleaning supplies and paper products are needed.

These items are essential for every day living. During this difficult time, we are asking the community to help with these essentials. Families in shelter need laundry detergent, bleach, diapers, paper towels and napkins.

Community Awareness Coordinator Kim Collins said, “These donations can be dropped off at the Thrift Shoppe’s and will be taken to the emergency safe shelter in a confidential location.”

The Northwest Thrift Shoppe is in the Plantation Plaza at 616 SR 13 North, one-half mile south of Racetrack Road. The hours are Monday – Saturday, 9a to 6p and Sunday, noon to 6p. Phone 230-5435 for pick up of large items.

The St. Augustine Thrift Shoppe is in the Anastasia Square Plaza, at 1961 A1A South, on the corner of A1A & S.R. 312. The hours are Monday – Saturday, 9a to 6p. Phone 471-4716 for pick up of large items.

Donations, purchases at the Thrift Shoppes and volunteering directly help the women, men and children who are victims of domestic and sexual abuse in St. Johns County.

The mission of Betty Griffin House is to offer protection and quality services for victims of domestic and sexual abuse and their minor children in St. Johns County, through the operation of a shelter offering assistance, counseling, and transitional support services, and to educate the community about services provided and raise awareness on the problems of domestic and sexual abuse in order to BREAK THE CYCLE OF ABUSE.
