St. Augustine Police Corporal John Sheets responded to an armed robbery call from a taxicab driver on San Marco Avenue at 2:09 a.m. early Sunday morning according to a report received by Historic City News.
The victim reported to police that he was responding to a call for a fare going from 52 San Marco to the Wildwood area.
When the taxicab driver arrived, a white man got into the cab and said he wanted to go to Treaty Park.
As the taxicab driver was about to leave, the man pulled out a black gun and stated, “Give me all your money. I don’t want to have to kill you.”
The victim gave the man $350. The robber grabbed the driver’s cell phone and left the cab. The taxicab driver was not injured.
The victim described the man as in his 20’s and wearing a dark colored shirt. A search was done of the area, but, no one matching the robber’s description was located.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the investigation is ongoing.
