Tonight, in a 4 – 1 vote with Leanna Freeman dissenting, The St. Augustine City Commission approved an offer to settle the lawsuit brought by Fish Island Development, LLC.
The commissioners twice attempted a modification to the settlement proposal presented two weeks ago at their last meeting without success.
Discussion on the failed motions included suggestions to increase the number of public spaces and to move the pier further to the north of the property – closer to the SR 312 Bridge.
On a motion made by Commissioner Don Crichlow and seconded and Mayor Joe Boles, the commission voted to accept the settlement as originally presented.
The settlement approved tonight reduces the dock from 100 to 70 slips, adds five public slips, moves the dock closer to the SR 312 Bridge, narrows the walkway from ten to eight feet and uses light-penetrating materials, and restricts further dock creation along Fish Island Development’s Matanzas River frontage.
