Sgt. Charles E. Mulligan updated Historic City News on the 3 year-old child from last nights drowning incident.
The victim has been transferred to Wolfson’s Children’s Hospital after being upgraded to serious condition.
The boy’s father told investigators that he was working on a deck and believed both of his children were inside the residence.
According to the report, while calling out for his children, he saw the family dog running to a nearby pond.
A short time later he located the unresponsive child in the pond and carried him to a neighbor’s house for assistance, where 911 was called.
Deputy Loren Schneider arrived and found the father performing CPR on the boy. They conducted the life saving measures until Fire Rescue arrived on scene.
Due to their efforts a pulse was obtained and the child taken to Flagler Hospital where he was stabilized, until being transferred to Wolfson’s.
The father told investigators he believed his child followed the family dog towards the pond.
The Robbery Homicide Section of the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
