St. Johns County reported to Historic City News that they are offering free sandbags for residents to use against potential flooding of their homes and businesses.
The sandbags are available 8:00 am to 5:00 pm today and Thursday, May 20 and 21, at Sims Pit, located at 536 Holmes Boulevard in St. Augustine. Residents may access Sims Pit by following the yellow signs on Holmes Boulevard.
The sand and bags are provided, but users must bring their own shovels and fill the bags themselves. The County asks that residents take no more sandbags than needed, not to exceed 100 bags.
The Public Works Department has received multiple requests for sandbags within the St. Augustine area and is pleased to offer this service to the public. No requests for sandbags have come from the northern part of the County, but if the need is identified then an additional northern distribution site will become available.
All questions may be directed to the Public Works Department at (904) 209-0246.
