Laura Stevenson, director of college relations at Flagler, reported to Historic City News that Flagler College will host former U.S. Sen. George McGovern for a free lecture at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, April 6th.
Senator McGovern’s lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session and a signing for his book, “Abraham Lincoln,” which is part of the American Presidents Series by Times Books.
McGovern represented South Dakota in the U.S. Senate from 1963 to 1981 and was the Democratic nominee for president (running against Republican Richard Nixon) in 1972.
McGovern was a decorated bomber pilot in World War II, after which he earned his doctorate in American history and government at Northwestern University.
A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, he lives in Mitchell, S.D., and calls St. Augustine Beach his winter home.
This event held in the Flagler College Auditorium, 14 Granada St., is open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first served basis.
