Personal fireworks ordinances in the city

Cathy Dupont urges Historic City News readers on behalf of St. Augustine’s Fire and Police Chiefs to do our part to keep July 4th safe and legal with a friendly reminder of ordinances in force in the City regarding personal fireworks.

Not only is the use of fireworks that explode or leave the ground illegal in the City of St. Augustine, but possession of such personal fireworks is also illegal. Those found to be in possession will be subject to citation or arrest and will have prohibited fireworks confiscated. The cost of the citation is $100.00.

In addition, those attending the City’s Fireworks Over The Matanzas program, which includes musical entertainment in the Plaza at 6:00pm prior to the fireworks display at 9:30pm, are reminded that alcoholic beverages are prohibited on public property, including parks, streets and sidewalks.

St. Augustine has become an increasingly popular place to celebrate Independence Day making it the city’s busiest holiday of the year. The city is committed to providing a fun and safe environment for families and friends to gather to celebrate Independence Day.

Simply put: Have a great time with friends and family, but keep it safe and legal!
