Across the southeast, approximately 180 projects are being implemented to improve national resources including two earmarked for Castillo de San Marcos.
The purpose of the stimulus projects is to improve national resources while stimulating local economies.
The Department of the Interior’s plan will infuse more than $28 million to jump-start the Florida economy through various public works projects.
$60,000 of those funds will go toward a new water distribution and phone system at Castillo de San Marcos National Park here in St. Augustine.
An article written by Tatiana Gonzalez, Correspondent to The Gainesville Sun, reports that Dan Matterson said officials are currently in the planning phase for the new water and phone system but don’t expect to begin improvements until late fall.
“The infrastructure has been inadequate,” said Matterson who is project manager for Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas.
The current water system is corroded and has not been renewed in over 20 years according to Gonzalez’ report.
As expected, Matterson is quoted saying “We’re really excited about getting it updated.”
