The Flagler College spring Community Lecture Series, “Global Perspectives,” continues with Peter Spiller when he presents “The Last Mountain: Conquest of Juliana Top” on Tuesday, March 17th.
As an “ultra-runner,” mountain climber and navigator, Spiller has experienced some of the world’s most beautiful and challenging terrain firsthand. From Costa Rica and Nicaragua to Canada and the mountains of South America, his experiences have given him a unique perspective.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economy, history and government from Wesleyan University in Middleton, Conn. He went on to earn a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University and was a National Defense Foreign Language Fellow in Latin America.
He worked for 30 years at A.P. Moller/Maersk Line, the world’s largest containerized liner shipping company. From 2003 to 2005, Spiller served as the General Manager of the Grand Bahamas Port Authority, Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island.
Presently, Spiller is the president of the Board of Florida Shipowners Group Inc. and the executive director of the Caribbean Shipowners Association and the Florida Bahamas Shipowners and Operators Association.
The spring 2009 series features speakers who have unique perspectives on global issues. The final speaker for the season will be William Spencer on April 14 presenting “Eyeless in Gaza: The First and Next 100 Years.”
Tickets are $5 per person for a single lecture, or $15 for the series. Active military personnel may attend at no charge. Lectures begin at 10 a.m. in the Flagler Room at Flagler College, 74 King St. Reservations are required, but space is limited.
