Supervisor of Elections Penny Halyburton reported to local Historic City News reporters in St. Johns County that it was a “very light day” at the conclusion of the first day of early voting.
“Two important County Commission races will be decided on August 24th,” Halyburton told Historic City News editor Michael Gold. “There is no November run-off for those seats.”
One of those County Commission races pits top-money-raiser John “Jay” Morris with former County Commission Chairman Jim Bryant and businessman Joseph Mayhew. Ballots from 125 voters were cast yesterday, making the Ponte Vedra Library the most active early voting location of the day.
St. Johns County voters can cast their ballot at any one of the six early voting locations — regardless of their “home precinct”.
Of the 430 early votes reported, the Southeast Branch Library came in second with 103 ballots followed by St Augustine Beach City Hall with 77, the Supervisor of Elections Main Office with 68, Julington Creek with 48 and the Town of Hastings with 9.
Halyburton stressed the importance of this Election and the importance of voting early. Early voting continues through August 21, 2010 at 4:30 p.m. and voting hours are Monday – Saturday from 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. each day.
