Another waterline break closes part of Cathedral

Historic City News local St. Augustine news reporters were on the scene of another water line break that had traffic on Cathedral Place closed down into one lane.

City Public Works employees were out in force first thing this morning to contain the break which flooded most of the roadway to the north of the Plaza de la Constitution.

Two major line breaks that occurred Friday had San Marco Avenue traffic near the Dairy Queen slowed to a crawl and traffic in Lincolnville backed up as well.

A precautionary “boil water” notice was issued for the areas along both sides of San Marco Avenue from Old Mission Avenue south to Cincinnati Avenue and both sides (north and south) of Old Mission Avenue.

Both sides of Riberia Street between Lincoln and South Streets and both sides of Lovett Street between Riberia Street and M. L. King Avenue were placed under a “boil water” notice, as well.

The waterlines throughout the City are old and need constant maintenance and repair. Public Works employees are accustomed to these types of incidents and were on the scene with manpower, pumps, trucks, jacks and even a tractor if needed to contain the leak.
