Historic City News reporters have learned that Sheriff’s deputies responded to Crescent Beach shortly before 5:00 a.m. this morning — following a call for help that a fisherman had fallen into the Intracoastal Waterway.

An investigation is continuing today into the circumstances surrounding the apparent drowning death of 52 year-old Kenneth R. Williams of Duval County.

The investigation has revealed that the victim, along with another man and woman from Jacksonville, located a private dock on SR-A1A South and began fishing early this morning.

For unknown reasons, the victim fell or jumped into the water and could not be located.

The Sheriff’s Office responded with Dive Team members along with the helicopter “Air One”.

A body, believed to be Williams, was recovered in the area by Dive Team members at 7:23 a.m.

Positive identification and the cause of death will be determined following an autopsy by the District Medical Examiner’s Office.
