Public Information Officer Sgt. Chuck Mulligan, reported to local St. Johns County news reporters that the Sheriff’s Office has recovered a body; found floating in the Intracoastal Waterway shortly before 2:00 p.m. Saturday.
Historic City News was told that deputies responded to a 911 call from a boater who discovered the male body.
St Johns County Marine Rescue personnel were on-board to assist a Florida Wildlife Commission marine officer who removed the body from the water.
Sheriff’s Office Robbery Homicide officers began their investigation at the scene of a nearby North Beach boat ramp where the body was brought to shore.
At this time, there is no information available as to the identity of the subject; or his cause of death. “I will provide an update when further information is available,” Mulligan said.
An autopsy will be performed by the Medical Examiner’s office; however, Mulligan told Historic City News that he doesn’t expect to be able to release the identity of the victim or the determination from the examination until later in the day Monday — at the earliest.
Detectives are reviewing recent missing persons reports and anyone who may have information regarding this incident is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 904-824-8304 or The Northeast Florida Crimestoppers.
