St. Johns County reported to Historic City News that the fifth and final unpaid staff furlough day in 2010 is approaching; all departments of the Board of County Commissioners will be closed on Friday, September 3rd.
This is an initiative that has saved approximately one million dollars, part of the $47 million reduction in the County’s 2010 budget.
All County offices and libraries also will be closed on Monday, September 6th, in observance of Labor Day.
Due to their unique hours, libraries will observe the staff unpaid furlough day on Saturday, September 4th. Accordingly, libraries will be open on Friday, but closed on Saturday. Please note library bookdrops will be locked at 6:00 pm Friday, September 3rd and reopen at 9:00 am Tuesday, September 7th. Materials will not be due on the closed days.
Essential Fire Rescue personnel are exempt from the furloughs due to the crucial public safety they provide. Additionally, employees of Constitutional Officers not under the jurisdiction of the Board of County Commissioners are not included in the furloughs, such as the Sheriff, Clerk of the Court, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser and Supervisor of Elections.
