The City of St. Augustine alerted local news reporters that with the return to daylight saving time on Sunday, March 14th, landscape irrigation will be allowed up to two days a week, after 4:00 p.m. and before 10:00 a.m., throughout St. Johns County.
Under the restrictions adopted last year by the St. Johns River Water Management District and City of St Augustine Ordinance 2009-15, landscape irrigation is limited to two days a week during daylight saving time.
The restrictions were put in place to ensure the efficient use of water for lawn and landscape irrigation, according to the Water Management District. Among the most important ways to help meet Florida’s water supply needs for today and the future is through conservation. Watering wisely promotes healthier lawns and landscapes and conserves Florida’s water resources.
The City of St. Augustine enforces the restrictions by city ordinance.
Beginning tomorrow, and subject to certain exceptions, landscape irrigation is limited to the following days:
Wednesday and Saturday for residential landscape irrigation at addresses that end in an odd number or have no address
Thursday and Sunday for residential landscape irrigation at addresses that end in an even number
Tuesday and Friday for nonresidential landscape irrigation
Other components of the restrictions include:
No irrigation is allowed between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Irrigation is limited to 3/4 inch of water per irrigation zone and to no more than one hour per irrigation zone on each day that irrigation occurs.
The landscape irrigation restrictions apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water, from a private well or pump, or from a public or private water utility.
