Historic City News reminds our readers that they are getting an hour older tonight when we “spring forward” in observance of Daylight Time.
Don’t be late for church in the morning — follow our advice and set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed tonight. It’s also a good opportunity to change the batteries in your smoke alarms.
You can catch up on your sleep again on November 7th, but at 2:00 in the morning, it will be 3:00 in the morning, so prepare yourself accordingly.
Daylight time originated because Benjamin Franklin, the king of inventions, realized that it would save on candles to implement a time change to save daylight. He coined the phrase, “Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.”
Since 2007, daylight time begins in the United States on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. These dates were established by Congress in the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
Not all places in the U.S. observe daylight time. In particular, Hawaii and most of Arizona do not use it. Indiana adopted its use beginning in 2006.
