According to the Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County, Historic City News reporters have learned that former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer has been released from custody after posting a $105,000 appearance bond; underwritten by a local surety company.
Greer was indicted and arrested on the following specific charges; organized fraud, (3) counts of third-degree theft, second-degree theft and money laundering. Greer was released around 5:40 p.m. last night.
Prosecutors allege Greer created Victory Strategies LLC in order to fraudulently obtain money from the Republican Party of Florida and then redirected the cash to his own bank accounts.
Prosecutors say that on July 23rd, Greer requested a $10,000 check on top of his standard fund raising commission. He then put most of that cash into his own bank account.
Greer requested another extra $10,000 payment on August 26th, prosecutors say. He put that money and some of his commission into his personal bank account.
The party paid Greer $30,000 on September 10th to conduct a poll for the Charlie Crist for Senate campaign, the indictment says. The poll was never conducted.
The indictment says Greer requested $21,250 in fund raising commissions on October 7th. The next day, the party cut him a check for $12,250.
Prosecutors say Greer’s company was designed solely to conceal or disguise the personal payments and that the total funds involved was more than $100,000 over a 12-month period of time.
