Heritage Corridor commission seeking public input

Michael Allen, National Park Service Community Partnership Specialist, notified Historic City News cultural reporters that the Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission is seeking public input on three preliminary management alternatives covering the next 10 years.

The preliminary alternatives outline basic management concepts and implementation ideas.

Comments must be received by October 26, 2010 to be considered.

“Based on the responses we receive, we will then reevaluate these preliminary alternatives and select a preferred alternative,” said Emory S. Campbell, Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission Chairman.

A newsletter with information about each and a comment sheet has been distributed to partners, stakeholders, and attendees from last year’s public meetings. The information can be viewed on the Internet by visiting http://parkplanning.nps.gov/

To send comments, click on “Comment on Document” and fill out the online comment form.

Handwritten or printed comments in letter or note form also may be mailed to National Park Service, DSC-P—Andrew Coburn, P.O. Box 25287, Denver, CO 80225-0287.

“Please let us know what you like or dislike about the preliminary alternatives and whether we have left anything out. It is important to be specific,” Campbell said. “Your comments, suggestions, and ideas will guide the Gullah-Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission in developing the best possible management framework for the corridor.”
