Homeowners evacuated in Friday house fire

Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that emergency personnel responded to a residential structure fire in the 2100 block of Forest Hollow Way early today.

Aided by Jacksonville Fire Rescue, crews arrived to find a large two-story structure with heavy smoke and fire showing from the garage and roof structure.

Firefighters confirmed the structure was evacuated, established a water supply and began an aggressive interior attack on the fire.

The first arriving apparatus and personnel worked quickly and were able to contain the fire to the garage and attic area and prevent further fire spread into the living area of the home.

The home sustained heavy fire damage in the garage and attic, with the remainder of the home sustaining smoke and water damage. Firefighters completed extinguishment and containment of the fire and then assisted the homeowners with removal of valuables and materials from the home that could be salvaged.

There were no civilian injuries reported during this incident, and one minor firefighter injury that was treated on scene and did not require transport to the hospital.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
