The local St. Augustine news desk has learned that Wednesday morning, Police Officer Jessica Pedonti responded to Flagler Hospital to investigate a complaint of domestic battery.
The victim informed Officer Pedonti that her husband grabbed her, pushed her down, and then held her down on the floor. The victim signed a complaint affidavit, swearing to the details of her accusation.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Clifford of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that after the victim’s statement was processed, the day shift officers were unable to make contact with the suspect, Ernest Montemayor.
Later Wednesday evening, sometime before 8:00 p.m., police communications dispatchers received another telephone call about Montemayor’s whereabouts.
44 year-old Montemayor, who resides at 28202 Harbert Circle in St Augustine, was located, interviewed and taken into custody by St. Augustine Police Officer Lealand Caudle.
Montemayor was transported and booked into the St. Johns County Detention Center and faces charges of felony battery — a first degree misdemeanor because Montemayor has had no prior conviction for battery, aggravated battery, or felony battery.
Montemayor was released after his first hearing Thursday, subsequent to posting a $1,000 appearance bond.
