Organizers of Jax India Fest 2010 told Historic City News reporters that the second annual heritage event will be held this year on October 16th from 3:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at Metropolitan Park, 1410 Gator Bowl Boulevard in Jacksonville.
Admission to Jax India Fest is free; its purpose is to foster cultural awareness of India and its people among the northeast Florida community.
Jax India Fest is a very popular event that attracts a large number of people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich Indian culture and heritage. In 2009, the first year of the event, about three thousand people came out to celebrate Jax India Fest. This year, the turnout is expected to be more than six thousand.
The event will have fifty-plus booths from a variety of regional Indian organizations and businesses that cater to the local population. The booths will be of authentic Indian cuisine, traditional Indian dresses, traditional Indian jewelry, and Indian art.
In addition, traditional Indian folk and classical dances will be performed. The event will culminate in Navratri celebrations, which will include Garba Ras and Dandia — very popular traditional dance in which everyone is welcome to participate.
