St. Johns River Community College reported to Historic City News that the last class of cadets to graduate from the Criminal Justice Academy this year was recently recognized during a graduation ceremony.
Cadets representing St. Johns, Clay, Putnam, Duval, Flagler and other counties received their certificates of completion for the law enforcement basic recruit and corrections basic recruit programs. Cadets who complete the certificate program will be eligible to take the state certification exam. St. Augustine Beach Police Department Chief Richard Hedges addressed the graduates as the guest speaker.
Special recognition in the basic law enforcement class went to Clay County resident Steven Norman for Highest Marksmanship Achievement and to St. Johns County residents Daniel Burkitt for Highest Academic Achievement and Lauren Norman for Most Improved.
The “Medallion Award” for highest overall achievement went to Clay County resident Erik Checo.
Special recognition in the corrections class went to Clay County resident Ronald Turbeville for Highest Academic Achievement, and the Meritorious Award for Exemplary Leadership went to St. Johns County resident Brian Johnson.

Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from Clay County: Gretchen Belfry-Miller, Erik Checo, Jason Herrera, Seth Hoodenpyle, Leonard Jones, Barry Kohlmann, Colten Lee, Kami Maertz, Timothy Mulvaney, Steven Norman, Jeffrey Paffe and Michael Zeisel.
Law enforcement basic recruit graduate from Putnam County: Threasa Sexton.
Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from other counties: Michael Kramer, John Moreland, Lynn Vanegas, Michael Virginiak and Jason Wright.
Corrections graduates from St. Johns County are: Amanda Dile, James Gilner, Jama Griffin, Brian Johnson, Tyler Quinney and Ronald Wellens.
Corrections graduates from Clay County are: Candace Fenner, Ryan Hoger, David Hurndon, William Reis and Ronald Turbeville.
Corrections graduates from Putnam County are: Ethan Baughman, Lauren Gadson, John Livingston, John Owens and Boutsady Phoulom.
Corrections graduates from other counties are: Charles Cardigan, Jr., Chad Gonzalez, Jared Nelson, Jeremy Neubauer, Joshua Roloson and Christopher Williams.
The academy is located on the St. Augustine Campus of St. Johns River Community College. The next law enforcement basic recruit day class is scheduled to begin January 10, 2011. The next corrections basic recruit day class begins February 7, 2011.
