Literary analysis of three Alfred Hitchcock films

The Flagler College Writers-In-Residence program will present “A Critical Lens: Literary Analysis of Three Alfred Hitchcock Films” March 7th to March 10th in the Flagler College Auditorium, 14 Granada St.

Alan Woolfolk, Flagler’s dean of academic affairs, will lecture on “Vertigo” on March 8. “Vertigo” is a 1958 American psychological thriller starring James Stewart, Kim Novak and Barbara Bel Geddes. The film focuses on a retired police detective who has acrophobia and has been hired as a private detective to follow the wife of an acquaintance and uncover the mystery of her odd behavior.

Flagler’s Director of General Education, Douglas McFarland, will lecture on “Blackmail” on March 9. “Blackmail” is a 1929 thriller/drama starring Anny Ondra and John Longden. The film originally began production as a silent film and is considered to be the first all-talkie feature British film.

R. Barton Palmer will lecture on “Sabotage” on March 10. Palmer is the Calhoun Lemon Professor of Literature and Director of Film Studies for Clemson University and author of “Alfred Hitchcock: Influence/Imitation/Intertextuality.” The film “Sabotage” – also released as “The Woman Alone” – is a 1936 British thriller. Interestingly, Quentin Tarantino utilized a clip from the film for his 2009 film, “Inglourious Bastards.”
