Pirate and Treasure Museum soon to open

As construction continues at 12 Castillo Drive, directly across from the Castillo de San Marcos, Historic City News has been updated on the status of St. Augustine’s newest attraction set to launch in early November.

While pirates are museum owner Pat Croce’s passion, he’s recognized as a pioneer in the sports medicine field and for being the former president of the Philadelphia 76ers, a motivational speaker and author of books on motivation and piracy.

How much is it to get in?
Our school group rates are $6 for children in kindergarten through 8th grade, with complimentary entry for one adult chaperone per 20 children. For groups of 20 or more, it’s $10 plus tax per adult for admission. Special group and educational programs are available on request

The individual cost at the door is $11.99 plus tax for adults and $6.99 plus tax for children 5 to 12 years old. Children under 5 are free.

St. Johns County residents get 20 percent off the door price and military and seniors get a $1 discount.

What are the museum’s hours of operation?
9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with the exception of prearranged tours and extended hours on holidays. It’s closed on Christmas Day. The tour is self-guided so enjoy at your leisure, although we recommend at least 45 minutes for the full adventure. For more info, call 877-GO-PLUNDER (877-467-5863)

What kind of exhibits can we expect?
The authentic collection of pirate artifacts at the St. Augustine Pirate & Treasure Museum dates back as far as 1563. And it’s one-of-a-kind with exhibits of the only surviving treasure chest in the world, one of only two Jolly Roger flags in existence, the original journal of Captain Kidd’s final voyage, and Blackbeard’s gold.

You’ll also find a host of interactive exhibits like touchscreen kiosks and audio chambers created by Disney Imagineers. You’ll even be able to board a pirate ship replica and fire real cannonóall perfect for both kids and adults.

Is this the same thing as the Pirate Soul museum in Key West?
It will actually be even bigger and better. We’ve already started breaking down the Pirate Soul museum since the beginning of August and we’ll be be carefully transporting our authentic collection of artifacts and exhibits from the Golden Age of Piracy to historic St. Augustine.

And there will be a few new adventures and surprises. We’d say what, but then it wouldn’t be a surprise!

Is there pirate swag?
The museum has an impressive one-stop pirate gift shop featuring everything from glassware to souvenirs, clothing, books, and all sorts of booty your pirate heart might desire.

There’s someone in my group who requires special accommodation. Can that be arranged?
