Regan contract to be approved tonight

Historic City News local reporters learned that at tonight’s regular meeting of the St. Augustine City Commission, Chief Operations Officer John Regan will be confirmed to become city manager as of July 1st.

Regan replaces Bill Harriss, who has served the city for 25 years, the last 12 years of which has been in the capacity of city manager.

A contract, negotiated by Regan, Mayor Joe Boles, and City Attorney Ron Brown, includes a salary of $131,000 for a five-year term with automatic extensions. Regan’s appointment will be subject to annual evaluation and his achieving defined goals and performance objectives.

48 year-old Regan has been with the city for 12 years, and is considered by Harriss “my point man on the tough assignments.”

Among others, those assignments have included the Riberia Street landfill move and restoration, West Augustine infrastructure plans, Visitor Center parking facility, seawall south of the Bridge of Lions, Riberia Street project and Aviles Street redesign.
