A Palm Coast memorial honoring the recipients of Purple Heart Medals was recently targeted by vandals according to a report received by Historic City News this week.
The memorial was recently dedicated in Heroes Park on Palm Coast Parkway. The memorial slab was donated by the Palm Coast Purple Heart Chapter 808.
Wednesday morning while on routine patrol in the park, Flagler County Sheriff’s Deputy Jesse Kocorowski noticed the memorial slab have been pushed off its foundation. The memorial is valued at $7,000.
“This memorial was dedicated to the men and women who were wounded in combat,” said Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming. “They deserve our respect,”
Stephen Lunsford, a member of the local Purple Heart Chapter, told Kocorowski that the memorial was intact as of Saturday morning.
Kocorowski reported the criminal mischief took place sometime after noon on Saturday and 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Anyone with information on the incident is being asked to contact the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office at (386) 313-4911 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-277-8477. You may be eligible for a reward.
