One of St. Augustine’s popular Inn’s, The Ancient City Inn, announces the Grand Opening of their New Fig Tree Cottage. The Inn will dedicate the Cottage with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8 a.m. on Friday, December 3 and host a Grand Opening Celebration from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 4.
The Grand Opening Celebration will have live music by a steel drum band, tours of the Fig Tree Cottage, a character artist, fresh baked cookies and pastries and specialty beverages that are a regular part of the Inn’s fare. In addition, folks stopping by to tour the cottage anytime in December can enter to win a chance to win a two-night weekend stay at the Inn’s new Fig Tree Cottage. The drawing will take place on January 1, 2011.
When Will and Carri Donnan, purchased the Ancient City Inn in 2000, they learned that a large section of the Inn’s grounds had once sported a fig orchard that was planted by the property’s original owners, Charles and Maude Sequi. For years the orchard provided figs for fresh baked breads served in area restaurants. Prior to the Donnan’s purchase of the Inn, the orchard was cut down to make room for a parking lot. In honor of the Sequi Family, the Donnan’s planted numerous fig trees on the grounds and named the new building, Fig Tree Cottage. The Fig Tree Cottage sleeps six and features a fully equipped kitchen, whirlpool tub, and private parking and laundry facilities.
