Todd Neville announced to Historic City News that the Ancient City Road Runners sent Facebook invitations to more than 1,000 people to participate in the 31st Annual First Coast Rehabilitation Matanzas 5000k and Fun Run.
The 5k run is Saturday, January 22nd beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.
“Last year, the race had more than 2,000 participants between the main event and the 1-Mile Kid’s Fun Run,” Neville told Historic City News. “The 5k is St. Augustine’s largest.”
The cross-country programs at all St. Johns County High Schools benefit from the popular, annual run. “The Ancient City Road Runners were able to give $2,000 to each team at Bartram, Creekside, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind, Nease, Pedro Menendez, St. Augustine High School and St. Joseph Academy,” Neville said.
This year, the Ancient City Road Runners will be reinstating the summer running camp for middle school and high school students and some funds from the Matanzas 5K will be used for that camp.
