450 Community Corps Chairman George Gardner reported to Historic City News this weekend that they have posted an email newsletter to some 300 volunteers who have signed up to assist in St. Augustine’s 450th anniversary over the past three years.
The “450 Gazette” lists volunteer interests and expertise as well as top voting for program and project ideas listed on the 450 Corps’ website, www.oldcity450.com.
Gardner said, “Several committees have already formed, and we suspect there are many others in our community gearing up for their part in our 450th anniversary.”
The newsletter states, “Jamestown in 2007 celebrated its 400th anniversary with more than 40 committees and subcommittees reaching into every corner of the festivities.”
The meat of it for the 450 Community Corps . . . includes three task forces: Logistics, Marketing, and Events/Programs.
“Under these, all ideas and volunteers come together, not to conform to some rules, but to communicate and possibly collaborate on programs and projects,” Gardner told Historic City News.
“Our City Commission is planning a series of workshops,” Gardner noted. “We look forward to working with the commission and all community organizations to tell the story of the First America, St. Augustine’s significant role in the history of America and the world.”
