Historic City News reporters were watching last night as John Regan, St. Augustine’s City Manager, moved a commitment made in the June 13th commission meeting into a reality; receiving approval from the commission to adopt a new iconic logo for the 450th Anniversary events.
In their last regular meeting, Regan promised that “there will be a dramatic improvement in the speed with which ideas are shared, considered and acted on”, and, if the new logo selection is any indicator, it looks like we’re in for quite an improvement.
Regan and staffers asked several local designers to develop ideas for an “official 450th logo” to be used in branding.
The results were presented in the 3:00 p.m. workshop where a consensus was reached then followed up in the regular commission meeting where the selected design was formally adopted.
Letting no grass grow under his feet, and relying on an approved budget of $5,000 for initial branding activities, Regan said, “shirts for city staff and commissioners are being ordered today.”
The design will be the property of the City of St. Augustine and cannot be reproduced on souvenirs, garments, or otherwise without approval and licensing from the City. As discussed in several recent meetings, the intent of the commission is to elevate recognition for the brand in tourism publications and advertising promotions and to earn license fees from the sale of retail merchandise bearing the iconic logo.
