Accident victim identified in New Years collision

Community Affairs Coordinator, Sergeant Charles E. Mulligan, released the identity of the driver killed in last night’s collision to Historic City News local St. Johns County reporters.

Pronounced dead at the scene was 38 year-old Howard Drawdy; who lived on Amos Avenue in Hastings.

At 6:37 p.m. last night, a passing motorist called E-911 operators to report finding a 2005 Isuzu cargo box truck that ran off the road and landed in the woods on CR-13 South near Old Brick Road.

The truck was transporting oranges in a heavily wooded area of CR-13 that is bordered by hunting camps.

Drawdy was ejected from the truck after it hit a tree. Due to the condition of the vehicle, at this time it is unclear if the driver was wearing his seatbelt.

According to Traffic Homicide Investigator J. D. McGinnis with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, driver fatigue is suspected as being a contributing cause in this single-vehicle collision.

Neither alcohol nor foul play is considered a factor in the crash.
