Jeffrey Edel, US Park Ranger and historic weapons supervisor at St. Augustine’s Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, reported the following upcoming events at the fort that will be of interest to Historic City News readers.
NOTE:
The 1740 Siege Night event that had been planned for May 13 has been cancelled.
Saturday, April 30; British Garrison Day
The Castillo celebrates Florida’s British colonial history. Redcoats, rangers and militia will man the bastions of Fort St. Marks with Ranger talks, Historic Weapons Demonstrations and other presentations throughout the day.
Saturday, May 7; Change of Flags
Rangers and volunteers will present two ceremonies depicting the 1763 transfer of the Castillo and Florida to the British Crown at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm. All British, Spanish, civilian, and Indian impressions are invited to attend.
A plan for the ceremonies will be available by email later this week; please request a copy if you would like to participate.
Saturday, May 21; 18th century School of the Soldier (Flintlock Musket Training)
