Historic City News was informed that the International Society for Krishna Consciousness of Alachua will conduct their sixth annual “Festival of the Chariots” parade and cultural event on Saturday, March 26th in the Plaza of St. Augustine starting at 11:00 a.m. and lasting through the afternoon.
Beginning at 1:00 p.m., there will be a 90-minute parade departing from St. George Street and Cathedral Place and proceeding west on Cathedral Place, north on Cordova Street to the Visitors Information Center, then south on Cordova Street to King Street, east on King Street, then north on St. George Street to the starting point.
The parade is preceded by a one-hour walking procession on St. George Street between Cathedral Place and Orange Street — which may cause brief traffic halts at the street’s intersections with Treasury Street and Hypolita Street.
This will be the first year since International Society for Krishna Consciousness of Alachua began holding their annual that they will hold a procession on St. George Street.
The City of St. Augustine has advised motorists to be aware that the procession associated with the parade and events will necessitate some minor interruptions of traffic along Cordova Street and the area around the Plaza.
“Traffic in the area should expect slow downs, congestion or brief halts to allow for the procession,” said City Public Affairs spokesperson Cathy DuPont. “St. Augustine Police will escort the procession and monitor key points to facilitate vehicular traffic and ensure the safety of the participants.”
