Commissioner Jay Bliss reminds local Historic City News readers that tomorrow, Thursday August 4th, a special meeting of the St. Augustine Port, Waterway and Beach District will convene at 2:00 p.m. in the meeting room of the St. Augustine Beach City Commission.
The District is the primary proponent of waterway and waterfront activities within its boundaries. Its mission is to pursue projects that maintain and enhance opportunities for waterway use among its constituency.
“Being considered tomorrow,” Bliss said, “will be Inlet dredging by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers vessel “Currituck”.
If you are planning to attend, the St. Augustine Beach City Commission meeting room is located at 2200 A1A South in St. Augustine Beach.
“A phone number to keep handy is FWC in Orlando at 407-275-4150,” Bliss said. “They will respond to your report of problems on the water.”
Bliss indicated that the closest FWC officer on duty would be dispatched — however, this office only covers St. Augustine south to the Indian River and doesn’t cover the Jacksonville area.
“Please attend Port meetings and voice your concerns and ideas,” Seat 5 Commissioner Jay Bliss said.
Captain Bliss joined the District in 2006. He brings maritime experience from sailing the Americas, the Caribbean, and New Zealand, along with a broad knowledge of port management in those diverse areas. In our local waters, he volunteers as an active director for SPARS, a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching area youth the basics of sailing. Bliss is a member of the Marine Industry Association, a licensed USCG captain, and holds sailing instructor certifications from USSA and ASA through level 205.
