Mike Davis was born in Bethesda, Maryland in 1966, returning to St. Augustine in 1971 when his Father, Vernon, came back to help A. D. run the family business. Mike Davis has been working for A. D. Davis since the summer of 1981.
Davis worked at Flagler College on the Dorm Renovations at Ponce Hall from 1981 until 1985. He later worked on several houses, additional project at Flagler College and the restoration of the Light Keepers’ House. Davis worked every summer during High School and College with A.D. Davis.
Davis graduated from St. Joseph Academy in 1984. In 1988 he graduated from Florida Southern College with a degree in Communications. He joined the office staff of A. D. Davis Construction in 1988. In 1989 while working full time he started working toward his second degree from the University of North Florida. In 1992 he graduated with a degree in Construction Management. “It was during this time that I learned the true meaning of organization and planning,” Davis said. “During the early 90’s not everyone had a cell phone, so, making sure that everything was going according to schedule on the jobs, while going class, was a lot of work.” Davis passed his State Building Contractor’s exam in December of 1994.
Mike was promoted to Vice President of A. D. Davis Construction in 1990, and, in 1997, he became a partner with his father. In 2002, Mike became the third generation to own the business and has served as the President of the Company since then.
Davis says that he enjoys working with the same clients that trusted his Grandfather and Father with their construction projects. He has also worked hard to expand the business and the clients that they serve. That growth is based on the same principles of quality workmanship, hard work, and trust. “I was very lucky to have learned from my Grandfather and more importantly my Father about doing things the right way.”
When he is not working, Davis devotes his time to his family and the community. He has been married to his wife Darcy since 1989. They have 4 children, Wesley-Katherine, Reese, Ethan, and Matthew, all of which he has coached in basketball. Davis has served on several boards and community projects in the last 20 years. “I believe in giving back to a community that gave so much to me when I was growing up,” Davis said.
